Calder Valley Soap Company
The Calder Valley Soap Company based in the Pennines of West Yorkshire are our newest supplier of natural soap here in the shop. The company has been producing it for over a decade in the beautiful wooded valleys of Calderdale and have taken the brand name for their soap; Elphin Brook, from a local stream.
Owners and soapmakers; Geoff Kerouac and Rob Costello pour, cut and stamp each bar by hand as well as pick or grow their own botanicals wherever possible. By using the traditional Cold Process and choosing the right combination of oils, a rich moisturising lather can be produced from the soap without including any of the petro-chemicals or parabens used in commercial soap manufacturing.
The shea butter soap that we stock in the shop is decorated only by spice certified Fairtrade and Organic and sourced from a women’s worker co-op in Ghana. The off cuts of the soap are also donated abroad to a charity in The Gambia and here in Manchester to the Booth Day Centre for the Homeless and SAMS (Scrap Art Metal Store) in Blackburn.
